And now to the event at Clayburn. I arrived around 10 45am and spotted Hube S setting up his “office”. Henry H arrived as did Barrie S. Hube offered to go get the poles and rope barrier but Larry and Barb B arrived with the equipment. Jack O arrived to lend his support. John Deadman our zone director also arrived. He needs proxy votes for the next election. Pictures were taken of all us who were there including a reluctant Jack. He moaned and groaned but secretly he enjoyed every minute. At the completion of my flight more pilots had arrived including Bob Hornidge.
The pictures were taken by Bob’s grandson’s girlfriend. Not sure if I got it right but it meant I got in the picture. It was almost a full house. Barrie flew then myself. Bob did not fly but started two motors which had not been run for quite some time. Hube got airborne as did Barrie and Henry. While taking my second flight the muffler departed company from the motor. The noise was deafening. I didn’t look for the muffler. It’s lost in the grass somewhere. Back at the pit area Jack pointed to a spot 10ft away and there was my muffler. It must have been thrown 60 to 75 ft. We all flew and tried to find shade as it got very hot at the end of the day. Last flight was myself with my backup “Kaos”. Take-off was fine and the OS 35 would not stop. The barriers were taken down and I was still up there. Planes were put away, tools and fuel put away and I’m still going. Henry and Barrie were gone; the Bells were standing by their truck. I started walking towards the parking lot. Still going strong. I swapped hands as the handle was sweaty and hard to hold. Finally the motor quit and just as well. A few more steps and I could have landed in the back of my truck. One of the best club day’s outings and no repairs except to my muffler.
