Sunday May 13, was an eventful day. The events were Mother's Day, the Spanish F1 race, Hamilton won, my daughter's birthday and our club's first scheduled flying session of the year here in Abbotsford. So I chose to go flying and watch the race later.
Our allotted times are from 10:00 to 5:00 so I arrived at 10 finding both Barrie S. and our new member Pat O. already there.
My complaint about the field seems to stand again this year - the grass is too long and the clippings were not picked up but with either Barrie's or Paul B.'s "runways" very flyable - landings not so much.
After getting our equipment out (and a little bs) Larry B. came along with the field equipment and we set that out as per MAAC needs. Larry then zoomed off to get ice for the water cooler and arrived back with not only ice but Barb also. Hube S., Jack O., Henry H., and Kathy also attended. Some laughing some more bs, and even some flying were completed before 2:00 by when us "old (in body only) folks were starting to feel the heat and packed it in.
As for the flying - Pat put up his first control line flight in 48 years - got a little dizzy but was able to complete it with no problems. CONGRATS Pat - Hube put in the second flight on his new "green box" Nobler. He covered it with ultra coat and did a great job of it. It flys level and turns nicely. He flew the Score later. Barrie first flew his Smoothie with a rough landing - tore the main gear off so he went ti his backup plane, an ARF Oriental with no further mishaps - Henry and Larry B. did not fly and Jack has "retired" from flying so I flew my Smoothie. It's not as agile as I remember - it has been a few years but I was able to blow the dust off it and it lived to fly another day. Larry L.
