Today was the last scheduled fun fly of the year at the Clayburn Park field.  Membership turnout was not quite what I had hoped for but we did have a father (Cham) and son (Harman) come out wit the intention of learning control line.  Jack O. made the trek out from town but didn't bring anything to fly.  Hube S. got in 1 flight and 1 lap but was having engine problems on his (normally) reliable Saito 56. He made some "adjustments" and in an e-mail said "Larry, I found the glo-battery was dead. Also made a better primer tool, and replaced the filter with one that seals better.  Looking for some weather to give it another try…Hube".  So am I.  I got in 3 flights - no muss - no fuss - but once again I am flying the bottoms of the maneuvers higher than I want.  Got to work on that.

I had met with Cham and Harman earlier in the week and was expecting to see them, I even brought the trainer I have for them to try.  Cham went first, good take-off but it kept climbing and by the time we realized we were in trouble the wind had caught it and it did a very nice knife edge across the top of the circle and introduced itself to the ground.  The only damage was some broken elastics and a prop.  All I have to do is clean the motor and it will be ready to go again.  The plane reacted to the sudden stop just the way that was planned.  Even if they don't stay with control line and go on to radio control, if they stay in the aero modeling hobby, I consider this a win.

I had hoped to have the last flight of the Clayburn season but that goes to Cham.  Who will be the first next year?
