Today we flew at our club’s home field at Clayburn Park.  This was the first time that both the grass being cut and it was not raining came together this year.  I went past the field, noticed that nobody was there yet, so went to get the safety equipment at the president’s home.  They had already left for the race track in Mission.  I sat at the field and waited to see if anyone else would show up.  Half an hour later Hube S. did and we set up the “fencing”, signs and wind pole.  We had just gotten this done when Paul B. put in an appearance – timing is everything.  Hube had his Saito powered Score, Paul, his LA 25 powered Barnstormer and his new Evolution powered ARF Oriental and I brought my old (recently repaired and remotored) orange Elec-Tric-A and an “Almost ½A” Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation CA-16 Wirraway.  Turned out that the change from a Turnigy 3548 to a Turnigy G10 was the right change – lap times went from 5.4 to 4.8.  I even did a series of maneuvers upwind before noticing.  It felt nice to have that plane back in the air again.  Paul had muffler issues on the Barnstormer so went to the Oriental.  After bringing out his “magic carpet” he got airborne and put in 4 flights without incident.  He now has a list of improvements/changes before the next time.  About this time Denis C. arrived.  Den flew nice tight PA flights on his modified Varley stunter.  I test flew the Wirraway and was pleasantly surprised at how well it flew.  Even though Hube kissed the ground at the exit of a loop nobody went home with “a new kit”.  Like I said it was a great day – great weather, great flying and, most importantly, great friends.
